Weekend Recap

Just a few highlights of this weekend:

1. Catching up with my best friend who made the journey up from Boston and spent the weekend with me in Brooklyn.

2. We spent Saturday eating our way through Brooklyn - I think we had a "snack" every couple hours.  Bagels, hummus plate, green juice, popcorn, bruschetta, ice cream...just to name a few.

3. Self indulgent gel manicures for both my BFF and me - so worth it.  My nails look a little like I painted them with White Out...in a good way.

4. Saw "Hunger Games" (again) - I don't need an excuse to eat movie theater popcorn.

5. Light dinner and cocktails at Bocca Lupo.  Excellent Classic Old Fashioned - I'd highly recommend.

6. Dessert from Pharmacy.  When they say "Double Scoop" they actually mean two servings.  I couldn't even finish it all...and that's saying something.

7. Lazy Sunday morning catching up on TV shows and eating bagels (again...a weekend staple).

8. I took advantage of the beautiful afternoon and went for a run out along the river.  The view from Pier 6 never gets old.  And catching a whiff of Lilacs as I run by is the best!

9. My husband finally brought his bike to the city.  We took ride around Red Hook on Sunday afternoon.  We saw places we didn't even know existed!  We happened upon a beautiful little park with huge cement blocks painted with "Red Hook."  And you could see the Statue of Liberty across the water.

10.  Finished off the weekend with my favorite pizza from Francesco's.

Stay tuned for a new outfit post tomorrow!  Here's to a great week!

Bow Tie

The parks are in full bloom here in Brooklyn.  It was a warm day so I took the opportunity to break out shorts for the first time this season (outside of Florida, that is).
Instead of wrapping my scarf in a more traditional way, I tied it in a bow and wore it as a makeshift bow tie.
The draped pleats on these shorts make them feel a bit on the dressier side.  Pairing them with a denim button down keeps things casual.
I love this in-between weather.  I can wear boots with shorts without it being too hot.
I borrowed my husband's denim shirt and rolled up the sleeves to make it feel a bit less oversized.
I'm ready for picnic season!

Spotted

We found this amazing wall on the side of a gas station while out for a walk around Brooklyn.  It just happened to compliment my outfit perfectly!
Bright colors pop so nicely against shades of grey.
I  recently rediscovered this pin, I made it years back from a hairband.
My pink belt did a nice job of breaking up the greys.  I got these leopard print jeans from Target - not only a great deal, but also a great fit!
As the days grow warmer and longer, I switched over to a lighter colored bag.  The large size fits everything I need for a whole day out and about.
I still can't how interesting this wall is - we just happened upon it by chance.  It's one of the best things about living in this city - you can round any corner and find something beyond cool.

Double Dot

I can't get over the gorgeous colors of the Florida Keys.  Definitely inspired me to try out some fun combinations during our trip.
Red, navy, pink, and and orangy-brown - lots of different colors, but they worked nicely together.
I especially loved the mixing polka dots on polka dots.  It felt both slightly retro and really fresh.
These were my go-to shorts to keep me cool and comfortable in the humid Florida weather.
Why not add another dose of color for the shoes?  I thought the yellow worked nicely with the mix of warm and cool colors throughout the rest of the outfit.
As you can see in the towel drying on the railing - polka dots seemed to be a theme of the vacation!

Roadblock

I broke out some bright colors to take full advantage of the bright sunlight and washed out colors of the Florida surroundings.
Hot pinks and warm reds really popped against the sun-bleached road.
After spending the day switching back and forth between pool and ocean, an easy bun was about all my hair would put up with.
The flower pattern on this skirt feels both chic and girly.
Sitting by the side of the road didn't feel too dangerous - I was pretty easy to spot!

Into the Blue

We made it down to the sunny Florida Keys late Friday and spent most of Saturday getting acquainted with the area and relaxing.
You can walk down a short tree lined path and find yourself on a bright blue dock at the water's edge.

As I get used to the stronger sun down here, I layered my favorite button down over my bathing suit for a little more coverage.

These are my favorite new shorts.  Both ombre and crochet...how can you beat that?
Trying to keep a hold of your hat in the wind can be a challenge - but it's one I think I can handle while I'm enjoying this little bit of paradise.

Cerulean

We leave for a quick getaway to the Florida Keys tomorrow.  I broke out this cerulean blue dress in honor of the clear blue ocean water that we'll be enjoying shortly.
Since it's not quite sleeveless dress weather here in Brooklyn, I layered a sweater on top.
I tend towards oversized sweaters, so belting helps give a bit of definition.  The sweater and belt combo has been my go-to all week.
I've been taking full advantage of the neon trend this season and switching back and forth between my neon yellow belt and my bright pink one.
Since the collar of the dress just peaked out above the sweater I decided to forego a necklace.

I am very much looking forward to a getaway!

Rusted

Just when I was starting to get the hang of Spring it turned cold, grey, and rainy again.  I went for a longer length the skirt to keep my legs warm, but the hemline still allowed for a bit of ankle to peek out.
Instead of breaking out cold weather jackets, I layered a couple of lighter weight ones together and threw on a scarf.
Hot pink nails provided a bit of neon against all the neutral just like the rust on the metal sheets in the background.
I love the slightly metallic color and details in this jacket.  It worked so well agains the army green vest.
This dress was a DIY project from a couple weekends ago.  I can't wait to show off the top when the weather gets nice again.
