Corrugated Color

I love an outfit that mixes styles, color, pattern, and texture.  Perfect for a bike ride around Red Hook and impromptu stop at the Red Hook Winery for a tasting.  It happened to also work quite nicely against this colorful, corrugated metal wall.

Casual Details

I tend to keep it pretty casual on the weekends - especially if I am spending the weekend outside of the city.  That doesn't stop me from mixing in some fun details to keep an otherwise simple outfit interesting.
It was pretty chilly all weekend so I kept my vintage army jacket on hand whenever I was outside.
I dressed up my striped thermal and cashmere sweater with a fabric flower pin.  Super simple and pretty.
I have been wearing these jeans a lot lately.  I love the zipper and moto-style details.
This polka dot hat has become a favorite.  I love how adds a bit of whimsey to any outfit.

Tasseled loafers in a fun forest green color rounded out the look.  And they matched my surroundings quite nicely!

Camo

I'm a big fan of hats in general and this one is right on trend this season - baseball style and camo printed.  The hat works easily paired with a simple sheer blouse and grey jeans.

Inspired

It's hard not to get swept up in the Olympics.  This weekend I found myself unconsciously, and rather patriotically, dressed up in red, white, and blue.

I was so inspired watching Great Britain's Mo Farrah win the 10,000 meter race on Saturday.  Such an amazing show of athleticism and sportsmanship.  It inspired me to brave the heat, strap on my running shoes and get out there and complete my own run Saturday afternoon.

Adventures in Remixing

I love the challenge of figuring out how to wear certain items regardless of season it belongs to (I have never been one to do a closet change over each season).  I thought I'd pull together a couple good examples from previous posts to help illustrate my take on remixing.

Dress:
A spring-like dress works for cooler months when you add a pair of warm tights and a blazer.
But it works just as well for summer if you ditch the tights and swap the blazer out for a lightweight denim shirt.

Boyfriend Jeans:
These jeans are my go to when I just want to be comfortable.  Blush tones and layers work well for fall.
Change out the loose layers for a more lady-like sweater and sophisticated heels and it feels like a completely different pair of jeans.

Sweater:
Pairing a white sweater with blacks and greys makes for a simple, super crisp look.
This sweater can work just easily when paired with a maxi dress and bright belt.

Hat:
I love this hat - the possibilities on how to wear it are endless.  One option, mixing patterns, makes for a bold look.
I also loved pairing the polka dotted hat with a polka dotted shirt.  It felt very fun and playful.
I'm a big proponent of shopping in my own closet and figuring out how to give an old item new life!

Double Dot

I can't get over the gorgeous colors of the Florida Keys.  Definitely inspired me to try out some fun combinations during our trip.
Red, navy, pink, and and orangy-brown - lots of different colors, but they worked nicely together.
I especially loved the mixing polka dots on polka dots.  It felt both slightly retro and really fresh.
These were my go-to shorts to keep me cool and comfortable in the humid Florida weather.
Why not add another dose of color for the shoes?  I thought the yellow worked nicely with the mix of warm and cool colors throughout the rest of the outfit.
As you can see in the towel drying on the railing - polka dots seemed to be a theme of the vacation!

Polka Dot

I'm not going to lie - I built my entire outfit around this hat.
The leopard jacket offers a little print on print competition while the coral shirt plays nicely off the red in the hat.
I went with super dark jeans since the rest of the outfit was pretty loud.

While I definitely jumped on the baseball style hat trend (though this is technically a camp hat), the bright red polka dot pattern does a nice job of differentiating this hat from others.
Just another few weeks and Prospect Park will be a whole different place.  Spring is springing in Brooklyn!
