Red Hot

I've spent most of the week wearing some variation of this outfit.  Skinny jeans paired with a comfy top.  Pretty fool-proof. Only this time, I punched it up a notch with bright red jeans.
It has been colder for the past couple days, so I layered a warmer jacket over a sweatshirt.
These jeans are a little different than your standard colored jeans.  They have an interesting, almost tie-dyed, effect in the fading.
I couldn't wait to break out these sandals.  I got them a couple years ago and look forward to breaking them out each year!
Mixing brights and colors keep the outfit nicely balanced.

Denim on Denim

I'm a big fan of denim on denim.  Though a denim shirt and boyfriend jeans are pretty safe bets on their own, combining them takes everything up a notch.
I stole another pair of my husband's old jeans.  I trimmed the length so you can see just a hint ankle at the bottom.
My neon belt adds a great pop of bright color to break up the blues.
It's finally open-toe-sans-socks-weather and I'm happy to be taking advantage of it!
I chose a tailored blazer to off-set the roomy shirt and jeans.
I am pretty sure Sponge Bob approved.

Queens

This past weekend, we took a quick day trip out to Connecticut to visit family.  On the way back, we stopped by the Queens Museum to see the current show featuring a couple pieces by artist (and good  friend) Palden Wienreb.
We took advantage of the last bit of sunshine to snap a few pictures in the park outside the museum.
This is my new favorite belt.  It's a bit hard to tell, but it's neon yellow.  The perfect little dose of neon for any outfit.
A bright blue bag and red shoes added a nice touch of color.
Somehow I managed to match my lipstick perfectly with the flowering trees!
It was nice to get out of the city and be outside on such a beautiful day.

Polka Dot

I'm not going to lie - I built my entire outfit around this hat.
The leopard jacket offers a little print on print competition while the coral shirt plays nicely off the red in the hat.
I went with super dark jeans since the rest of the outfit was pretty loud.

While I definitely jumped on the baseball style hat trend (though this is technically a camp hat), the bright red polka dot pattern does a nice job of differentiating this hat from others.
Just another few weeks and Prospect Park will be a whole different place.  Spring is springing in Brooklyn!

Feels like Spring

Such a beautiful weekend.  I took advantage of the warm sunshine to bring out this dress which hasn't seen the light of day since last summer.
These tights offer a bit of unexpected color under the maxi skirt.
I belted the oversized sweater to offer a bit of shape.
I pulled out my old Wayfarers to switch things up.  The lighter tortoise coloring works nicely with the bronze jacket and lighter palette.
It was nice to be able to sit and enjoy the warm sunshine.  Real Spring isn't too far away now!

Vintage Spots

Though I generally shy away from super loud animal print - I have been thinking about a faux fur leopard print jacket for quite some time.  I found the perfect one on Etsy, and finally took the leap.
I love how the collar stands up on it's own - it really makes a statement.
Most of the look was black, white and tan, so this necklace added a nice hint of color.
It's (almost) getting warm enough to think about bare feet and legs.  You can see my tattoo peeking out below the ankle length pants.
I love the bracelet length sleeves and the swing shape of the jacket.  While it's vintage, it doesn't feel dated.
A simple white shirt and black sweater let the jacket shine.

Back Alley

Taken separately you wouldn't think these pieces (sheer shirt, lady-like sweater, torn up boyfriend jeans, glittery shoes) would make much of an outfit, but, I when I put them together, I found they worked together quite nicely.
This is my favorite shade of red.  It has just a hint of orange.
The sheer shirt peaking out from behind the sweater feels very cheeky.
The oversized, ripped up jeans offer a cool juxtaposition against a lady-like sweater and button-up.
I really like the contrasting silk lining of the sweater - it's all about the details.
We were lucky to stumble upon this bright green wall in a back alley that really made the whole look pop.

Pallet

We found this pile of old pallets at the back of a huge parking lot near our apartment.  The warm natural wood with splashes of blue and red provided a nice back drop to my super neutral outfit.
I found these boots at the Barney's Warehouse Sale and have to say, I'm pretty excited.  They're super stiff, thick leather, so they'll definitely take some work to break in.  But I think they'll only get better with wear.
The rest of the outfit was pretty simple with tone on tone greys and tans.
I love how you can see just a hint of patterned silk under my grey blazer.
I'm in the spring mind-set already so I choose a lighter weight scarf.
Bright red lipstick topped things off - providing a much needed little splash of color.
