Mad Hatter

Being that we're getting close to the end of "winter," I've been on the look out for alternatives to the usual knit caps.  I found this hat in a little shop outside of Bodega Bay, California.
I've had to restrain myself from wearing this belt every single day, I've got it down to about every other.  It adds such a great pop of color, especially among neutral, safe colors.
They weren't selling these Target boots online, I had my sister keep a lookout for them at her local Target.  I was lucky that she found them - and they were on sale!
The women who sold me this hat told me I looked like an Amish school girl.  I'm pretty sure she meant it as a compliment (...I think).  I couldn't resist the challenge of making it work.
Though I may wait for a slightly less windy day for the next outing.
After a warm weekend in California and a warmer than usual week in NYC - it was back to winter jackets and layers on a cold and blustery day.  But I know Spring isn't too far off at this point!

Napa Valley

Hard to believe these pictures are from the middle of February.  I don't think it would be too hard to get used to northern Califorina - the weather or the countryside (or the wine!).
I went for easy layers in springy colors for an afternoon of touring wine country.
It got cool as the sun set so I was happy to have brought my jacket.
I refused to wear jeans as a little girl - but I think I would have had trouble resisting this combination of purple and pink.  I plan on picking up several pairs of bright jeans this spring.
Trusty tote and comfortable wedges were good for traipsing around all day.
Though the vines weren't yet in bloom, the yellow fields made quite an impression.

For the Birds

We spent a great weekend in Santa Rosa, about one and a half hours north of San Francisco, visiting family.  The weather was spectacular - warm and sunny in the middle of February.  I could get used to it!  We took a trip up to the schoolhouse that was part of a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds."  We saw some birds, but mostly just gorgeous views.
A leather jacket and lightweight scarf were all I needed.
Navy and neon pink is my new favorite combination.  They compliment each other so nicely.
This skirt is actually my DIY dress that I put together last month.  The wind was having quite a bit of fun playing with the bottom of the skirt.
My Foley+Corinna bag was the perfect travel bag - roomy enough to act as my carry-on and super easy for toting around my camera and other odds and ends for the rest of the trip.
An easy and playful outfit for a jam-packed day.

Fenced In

On a cold winter day I decided to punch up neutral black, white, navy and grey with a some strategic pops of bright colors.  Even though it's been unseasonably warm for most of the winter, I have to keep reminding myself that spring will be here before I know it.  I find colorful ensembles are a great way to do that.
The cobalt blue bag really punches against the darker navy.
I dug this white skirt out of the back of my closet and have been wearing it a ton ever since.  You can definitely wear white year round these days.
Who doesn't love pink shoes, especially these which are both menswear-inspired and whimsical at the same time.  These are extra special as they're the ones I wore on my wedding day!  I got married in the woods so heels weren't really an option.
The green shirt and pink belt added a dose of bright, almost neon color to the whole look.
It was quite windy day, I had a lot of trouble controlling my hair...and had to be extra careful with my skirt!

Thinking Pink

Nothing like a colorful skirt to brighten up an otherwise grey afternoon.  I definitely don't shy away from color, but it's still winter, so I paired bright pink with a simple black jacket and boots.
This is my new go-to watch.  You can see all the gears and the self-winding mechanism.  I love how the big, masculine (men's) watch looks on my wrist.
I'm looking forward to the spring when I don't have to wear tights under all my skirts and dresses, but, until then, booties and tights will have to do.
The different shades of pink working through the floral pattern make for the perfect winter pick-me-up.
I kept accessories to a minimum - just a simple black belt (and the black watch).
The black turtleneck and peacoat kept out the cold.

Jackson Hole

Here are a few snaps of what I wore apres-ski during our trip out to Jackson Hole.  It was sunny but really cold.  I kept things simple by packing some of my favorites - jeans, boots and many sweaters for layering.  This jacket, while it may not be the most stylish, is the warmest jacket I've ever worn, which was necessary in the mountains!

Red Hot

In honor of the beautiful sunny days we've been having during our trip out west to Jackson Hole, here are some super bright and sunny pictures we took a couple weeks ago.
The bright red truck make the teal sweater and purple skirt really shine.
My favorite red gloves look almost pink in the sunlight against the true red of the truck.
I threw on my vintage army jacket (c/o my dad), opaque tights, ankle boots, and a super warm scarf to combat the cold temps.
The sunlight was so bight that colors took on an almost cartoon-ish look.
My favorite scarf - so thick and warm - wrap it twice and it feels like I'm wearing a blanket!

Nude and Neon

I am in love with this dress.  I received the package first thing in the morning and immediately put it on - I know it's probably a bit out of season, but I had to test it out.  Such a sweet collar and demure length.
But most of all, I love how the nude dress has an unexpected contrast of neon along the bottom and how it's just sheer enough to see the contour of my legs beneath.  Nude and neon might be my favorite combination for Spring.
I pinned up my hair and framed the dress on top and bottom with simple grey.  Had to give the dress it's moment in the sun.
Simple accessories - python clutch, turquoise bracelet, and red leather gloves - work nicely to compliment the look.
My mom brought this necklace back for from one of her trips to Italy and my dad brought the turquoise bracelet back from a trip out west.
As we were shooting, the tarp on the fence blew up to reveal the desolate construction site behind.  Made for an interesting background for such a lady-like look.
